How do I fill my tanks at the bottle dock?    
To fill your tanks at the bottle dock, bring them to us and we will inspect and weigh them. We will then tell you how many gallons you need, and you can go inside to pay.  

 

What is a recertification? 

Propane tanks are required to be periodically recertified to ensure their safety and compliance with industry standards. The recertification process involves a thorough inspection of the tank's condition, safety features, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Can I store propane tanks indoors?

Propane tanks should be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Storing them indoors can pose safety risks due to the potential for gas buildup. Follow our guidelines for proper storage.

 

What should I do in case of a propane leak?

If you suspect a propane leak, turn off your propane tank(s)evacuate the area immediately, and do not use any electrical devices or open flames. Contact our emergency contact for assistance.​ (505)410-7415

 

Why does propane smell so bad? 

Propane itself is an odorless and colorless gas, but a distinctive and strong odor called "ethyl mercaptan" is intentionally added to it for safety reasons. The odor is added as a safety measure to help people detect leaks and potential hazards associated with propane. 

 

Why isn't my tank filled to 100% capacity? 

Propane tanks are typically not filled to 100% capacity for safety reasons. Leaving some space in the tank allows for the expansion of the propane gas due to changes in temperature and other factors. 

Why do I have to get a leak check on my empty tank?

A leak check on an empty propane tank is a required safety measure to detect and address any residual gas, comply with regulations, and prevent any potential hazards. It is a standard practice recommended to ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of propane systems.
   

Do propane prices fluctuate? 

Yes, propane prices can fluctuate based on various factors. The pricing of propane is influenced by market conditions, supply and demand dynamics, as well as external factors that affect the energy market.

Can you fill a tank that I rent from another company? 

No, unfortunately State law prohibits one company from filling a tank belonging to another company. We can only fill your customer owned & Ortega’s Propane tanks. 

 

How do I know what tank size I need? 

Determining the right size of propane tank for your needs involves considering factors such as the intended use, and the frequency of usage. We will help you choose a tank size that will properly suit your needs.
